The central elements of Dalma Nyiri’s exhibition are installations built by the artist from vintage objects which serve as frames for photographs, using the stereoscopy technique.

Stereoscopy, a branch of optics, refers to a technique for creating or enhancing the illusion of depth in an image by means of stereopsis for binocular vision. Based on this principle the installation offers a 3D perception of the pairs of bi-dimensional images, therefore the apparently flat surface of the images acquires a 3D depth. This illusion can occur by the simultaneous projection of two photographs taken from two slightly distanced points. Both of the bi-dimensional offset images are then combined in the brain to give the perception of 3D depth.

These series of photographs show the ruins of old deserted Transylvanian castles, slowly forgotten such as the technique used to create the installations themselves. The ruins are hosting surreal characters, coming from remote worlds, using these deserted surroundings as hiding places.
