Gülin Hayat Topdemir, "Intruder", Oil on Canvas, 130×190 cm

Gülin Hayat Topdemir is to present her latest work in her new exhibition "Kara Kutu" (Black Box) at Galeri Zilberman between May 4th and June 15th.

After a three-year hiatus, the artist turns the focus on herself in her third individual exhibition at Galeri Zilberman.

Using the surrealistic stories of the woman and the dark nature of her dream world, and the regional lighting technique (Chiaroscuro) that dates back to the Rennaisance, she masterfully combines the chromatic atmosphere she has constructed, and turns the focus on the woman she perhaps knows the best: Herself.

Gülin Hayat Topdemir brings her separated characters in her Black Box series face to face with scenes she has constructed onto the different phases of the mysterious-yet-clear and sad-yet-cheerful cycle of life. In her paintings, the self breaks into its parts and the details in the nook of Black Box come to light.

Topdemir finds and examines, through herself, the sub-identities that can exist in a woman as an individual, and brings them face to face. Gathering the separated identities in the eye of her artistic identity, she tells new stories about the possible new kinds of relationships that can form between them.  Coming face to face with each other as a consequence of time folding into itself, these characters test each other in various ways, and turn into players in a game where the rules are ambiguous. As the life cycle where celebrations, pastimes, dreams, nightmares and threats intertwine keeps turning towards the future, the largest amount of experiences a lifetime can hold become visible through this series.

Gülin Hayat Topdemir's "Kara Kutu" (Black Box) can be visited from May 4th through June 15th at Galeri Zilberman located in Mısır Apartmanı.
