As part of the 9th festival French Spring Ya Gallery Art Center in cooperation with the Embassy of France in Ukraine, French Institute in Ukraine, Toulouse gallery Croix-Baragnon and Toulouse (France) city administration presents exhibition "Figure Vivace" featuring French and Ukrainian artists.
Figurative art holds an important place in the XX century art history. Though in 1970-80s French institutions abandoned it, praising conceptual art, it didn't disappear. I am speaking of the "purgatory", works of these artists are rarely exhibited and sold. In Great Britain and Germany, where painting was always highly valued, cultural institutions‘ position in regard to this is different. They support Neo-expressionism and artists like Lucian Freud, Francis Bacon, as well as Baselitz, Lupertz and Penck. In the past several years more and more exhibitions and large scale fairs of contemporary art demonstrate productivity of figurative movement among artists. Exhibition Figure Vivace evidences this reality and the passion of young art for portraying the body. All the artists presented – most of them were born in 1970-80s – exclusively cater to figurative art in their works and explorations. The exhibition unites regional, Paris and Ukrainian artists in formal and technical pluralism around one idea.
At the end of the last year Anatoliy Bielov already took place in the project FIGURE VIVACE dedicated to the theme of physicality in the gallery Espace Croix-Baragnon in Toulouse, France, with his projects Balance and Struggle and also presented art-book "The Most Pornographic Book in the World".
It was a great experience to see and learn about art situation in France, it was also interesting to meet and talk to French artists. Croix-Baragnon invited all the artists participating in the project together and introduced them to each other.
