Vartai Gallery, Vilnius: Greetings

Gintautas Trimakas, From the cycle Greetings, 18/12/2011, colour film, published on Facebook

28 June – 4 July, 2012
Opening – 28 June, 6 p.m.

June 28 – July 4, the Review Room of Vartai Gallery will host the Greetings by G. Trimakas. The project is special, because this is the first time Trimakas introduces colour photography or – according to himself – a search for colour. He takes different compact cameras (“because I have an addiction to collect heaps of cameras and a need to give them all a chance to speak”), puts the cheapest colour film in them and takes pictures of the sky relying on the automatic exposure of the camera, which most often results in an error. “I have been fighting the joy of image recognition all my life”, jests the author. Greetings is a natural sequel to Trimakas’ classic Pauses, but this time the photographer employs yet another technique – Facebook social network, where the Greetings have been on display for over a year. The author is greeting us and hopefully his images will be heard.

Contemporary art gallery VARTAI organises open reviews of artworks which introduce the latest works of a selected artist and analyse the genre, development, uniqueness and potential of his or her artwork.
Through the Thursday reviews, VARTAI gallery aims to collect and publicise the latest news on the works of contemporary artists, provide a more exhaustive introduction of the authors, promote works of acclaimed artists and discover new promising names.
Artists wishing to submit their artwork for the reviews should contact the gallery by e mail
