Rhythms + Motion + Light
Impulses of Futurism in Czech Art

15/2/2013 – 19/5/2013

Curator: Yvona Ferencová
Graphic design: Robert V. Novák

The subject of this exhibition is the problem of capturing and evoking motion, or on a more general level the rendering of speed, duration and time in Czech art of the first quarter of the 20th century. As a consequence of the increasing dynamics of modern life this had become of paramount interest to Italian Futurists, but Czech art had not examined it in any considerable depth. The exhibition charts how and from where the motifs of motion, rhythm and dynamics arrived in Czech art and what it signified (such as in works by F. Kupka, O. Gutfreund, B. Kubišta, K. Teige, Z. Pešánek and others). Based on an interdisciplinary concept it will present visual art alongside various technological solutions (optical apparatus, chronophotography, film). It isaccompanied by a catalogue with essays, documents, reproductions and a resume in English.
