Exhibition is opened: 23 11 2011-16 12 2011

The very first “Salon d’Automne” exhibition was held in Paris, in 1903. A group of artists – Georges Rouault, Andre Dera, Henri Matisse, Angelo and Albert Delasalle Marquet – organized the exhibition, which was a reaction, response at the time to the conservative Paris salon (Paris Salon) shows. “Salon d’Automne” exhibition became the event that introduced society to the development of 20 th century paintings, sculptures and various innovations. The works of world-wide fames artists, such as Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Cezanne, Henri Matisse, Paul Gauguin and others, were exhibited there.

The exhibition held by “Meno parkas” has no intention nor desire to oppose the other projects and exhibitions. The purpose of “Salon d’Automne” in Paris also wasn’t only to oppose the conservative Paris salon. The aim was to present a “new art”, new thinking, new trends, new perception of art. From this point of view the traditions, that goes way back to bohemian Paris more than a century ago, relates with the exposition that is yet going to be. The exhibition, called by such “antique” name, should inspire the visitor and create a certain mood.

“Autumn Salon” in gallery “Meno parkas” is not aiming to deliver “absolute” innovations, new trends or to make some kind of  breakthrough in the scene of contemporary art. The heroes of the last century already did that. Although, this salon, which will be taking place in Kaunas, has its own intrigue: the newest, the “freshest”, anywhere yet unseen works will be brought here.

The first “Salon d’Automne” exhibition invited eleven artists. These are the artists whose work always attracts the attention and evaluation. The number of the artist should be much bigger, though it is already determined by other (technical) circumstances.

The participants of  the “Salon d’Automne” exhibition are: Elena Balsiukaitė-Brazdžiūnienė (painting), Jonas Gasiūnas (painting), Patricija Gilytė (video), Agnė Jonkutė (painting), Algimantas Kezys (photography, USA), Česlovas Lukenskas (object, installation), Eimutis Markūnas (painting), Vaida Tamoševičiūtė (performance), Laisvydė Šalčiūtė (painting), Eugenijus Varkulevičius (painting), Alfonsas Vilpišauskas (painting).
