Joan HERNÁNDEZ PIJUAN Das Mass der Zeit, der Lauf der Malerei

unifies works from the beginning of the eighties up to 2005, the same year when the Venice Biennale presented the artist, who is one of the most important representatives of contemporary spanish painting, in their main exhibition "The experience of Art”. Despite early successes, it is particularly his late work that bore his international breakthrough. Here HERNDÁNDEZ PIJUAN tries to trace the painting back to the inner necessity, to the primitive, undisguised origin of culture.
Therefor he helps himself with originary pictoral instruments in an extremely radical way, but without letting them forfeit their sensualism.

There is no need of complex forms as HERNÁNDEZ PIJUAN finds the poetry in simplicity.

Moreover the artist creates an inseparable spiritual entity by using a palette of incredible colours inspired by the Iberian land and the vegetation grown there.

HERNDÁNEZ PIJUAN tries to limit his signs more and more to the absolute necessary and deals just with painterly issues. With this process of a hardly noticeable modulation of a picture, the  artist also refers to the component "time”. HERNÁNDEZ PIJUAN is continously proving his topics, spreads them out and lets them ripen but in any case stringency and absolute  reduction are dominating his work.

The SALZBURG BIENNALE 2013 – Festival for New Music from March 1st to 17th

presents 30 events during three weekends, works by composers from 18 different countries, including 6 world premieres and 24 Austrian premieres. The festival confronts new music with works of tradition, shows different genres and formats next to each other and seeks, not least because of the connection with other art forms like fine art or dance, to invite discovering the music of our time.

Friends of the gallery will receive -20% to all concerts of the first Biennale weekend,
i.e. € 16,- instead of € 20,- per ticket, resp. -40% to the weekend pass: € 72,- instead of € 120,-.
