Kristaps Gelzis (1962, Riga) – is artist, who is presenting himself in various contemporary artistic mediums – large scale drawings, watercolours, fluorescent paintings, 3-dimensional objects, digital prints. His works are inspired by daily observations, inconspicuous weekday events, which become his art’s way out and result in the same time. Using all available contemporary technologies and media, Kristaps Gelzis virtuously and ironically combines individual in a one form with his time and reality, history and tradition, and challenge the spectator to a dialog. And work of art turns into a social space, where we are looking for relationship with what is existing around us. Now Kristaps Gelzis is searching for facture of nowadays. Facture that testify the time, hence also form of expression resembles this period. Everything is spoiled – everything is plastic, chemicals, garbage mountains. However, he likes the beauty of this terrible material.
