Krokus Gallery cordially invites you to the solo exhibition by the Slovak painter Jana Farmanová entitled “Conversion”. The exhibition is a selection of Farmanová’s recent work. Jana Farmanová dedicates herself to figure and portrait paintings, and it is the relationship between intangible individual experiences, emotions which are difficult to name and their visualisation in the medium of a painting which lies at the heart of her interest. The artist explains it as follows: “It is quite simple and very personal. But not in the sense of the biographical story of specific events. It is the emotion that the story talks about that interests me, an emotion which can change and be shaped by the chain of events in the story. And what I want to do is to put that emotion down on paper or on canvas.”  (Jana Farmanová in discussion with Ivana Moncoľová, in: Jana Farmanová, Krokus Galéria/Slovart 2012)

The balance between precise, realistic painting and dynamic expressive painting marked by rapid brush movements, gestic shortcuts, leaving out parts of the picture and the deliberate crudeness of the composition is typical of Jana Farmanová’s work. In her exhibition at Krokus Gallery, Jana Farmanová thematically deals with the phenomenon of conversion in nature and in man: the conversion of material and energy related to processes such as growth, growing‐up, maturing.
