E6-YU – Ištvan Išt Huzjan
SIZ Gallery 2013 program in Mali salonu, Korzo 24, 51000 Rijeka

27th of June – 6th of July 2013

Exhibition opening: 27th of June 2013. at 8pm*

E6-YU is a performance and a solo exhibition of a young Slovene artist Ištvan Išt Huzjan that deals with the artist's journey between Ljubljana, Slovenia and Rijeka, Croatia on the old Yugoslav hiking path E6-YU. The exhibition of the performance opens on the June 27th 2013 in Mali salon in Rijeka, as a part of the program carried out by the Gallery SIZ.

Ištvan started his journey on June 14th 2013 within the framework of the U3 7th Triennial of Contemporary Slovene Art – Resilience ( and the annual programme of Gallery SIZ ( from Rijeka. His journey took four days and it ran along the old Yugoslav hiking path E6-YU that got redirected in the early 90's due to the newly established border between two young countries and ends today in Strunjan, Slovenia instead of Rijeka, Croatia.

Ištvan has invited a team of art professionals and friends to join him on his journey:
Tevž Logar – Director of Gallery ŠKUC, Ljubljana, Slovenia
Fokus Grupa (Iva Kovač and Elvis Krstulović) – Croatian artist duo running the programme of Gallery SIZ, Rijeka, Croatia
Jani Pirnat – Slovenian freelance curator
Nejc Svete, Katarina Černelič and Linda – friends

He is observing the restoration of the old walkway between two countries on the eve of Croatian accession to the EU (what will happen on July 1st. 2013) from the perspective of physical consideration of political connections, camaraderie and new utopia in the context of the renewed opening of borders between the two states.

Physical presence on a specific geographical location is offering unique conditions for creation of impressions (insights) that Ištvan will present in a form of short text and photo/article – newspapers being an ideal medium for the presentation of the project. In the space of Mali salon Ištvan is curating an exhibition of landscape painting from the collection of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Rijeka while the newspapers with his contributions are subtly inserted into the exhibition space. In a similar way Ištvan's work is presented at the exhibition U3, which opened at the Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova in Ljubljana on June 20th 2013, but, in this occasion his work is incorporated in an already existing group show.

Ištvan Išt Huzjan (1981, lives and works in Ljubljana and Brussels) appropriates themes from his own childhood and the transitional time of recent European history. In his practice he has moved from representation to re-enactment, which represents itself in moving away from creating an illusion on two-dimensional surface towards combining different media.
