Galeri Zilberman invites young artists to participate in GYF 2014.

Chosen works, selected by a committee consisting of Emre Zeytinoğlu as president, Genco Gülan, Burcu Pelvanoğlu and, to represent the gallery, Burçak Bingöl will be exhibited at Young Fresh Different-V in June 2014 at Galeri Zilberman at Mısır Apartmanı. List of conditions for applications

Galeri Zilberman continues its commitment to promoting and providing a platform for young artists with “Young Fresh Different”. Previously organised by Cda-Projects, the selection will continue to take place at Mısır Apartmanı as the last exhibition of the season, under the name Galeri Zilberman, following the merging of our two galleries.

Applications to our nationwide call will be evaluated by a selection committee consisting of Emre Zeytinoğlu as president, Genco Gülan, Burcu Pelvanoğlu and to represent the gallery, Burçak Bingöl. Selected artists, who will receive a 500 TL contribution payment, will exhibit their works at Young Fresh Different-V from 28 June until 10 August 2014.

Conditions of entry

– The competition is open to every kind of artistic material and style.

– Applicants must not have completed the age of 34 on 1 January 2014.

– Applicants who applied to Young Fresh Different-IV in 2013 and whose works were exhibited cannot apply this year.

Presentation and submission of the works

– Applicants must propose only one work and present a portfolio containing no more than 5 works in total.

– Applications must be submitted to the gallery as CDs or DVDs or be sent to using platforms such as “We Transfer”. (Please choose only one of these methods)

– Visuals on the works should be in JPEG or PDF formats only and should not exceed 5MBs including ID tags.

– Applicant's résumé and contact details (telephone, e-mail, postal address) should be included in the same file.

– CD/DVDs must contain the applicant's name as well as the phrase “Galeri Zilberman – Young Fresh Different 2014” and must be presented in an envelope containing these same inscriptions. If applied online, please make sure this information is included in the same e-mail.

– Submitted CD/DVDs will not be returned.

– The deadline for the submissions is 17 May 2014. Applications who miss this date, regardless of the reason such as delay in post, will not be admitted.

– Applicants are solely responsible from the delivery of works to and from the gallery.

– Proposed work cannot be exhibited anywhere else apart from Young Fresh Different-V during the course of the exhibition.

Announcement of results

The selection committee will complete the selection process until 29 May 2014 and the chosen applicants' names will be posted at the gallery's website from 4 pm. on 29 May 2014.

Participants automatically accept the conditions above. Selected applicants will sign a contract with Galeri Zilberman specifically for the exhibition.

Emre Zeytinoğlu

Born in 1955, in Istanbul. He graduated from the Ceramic Department of the State Academy of Fine Arts in 1980. Since 1986, his work was shown in numerous exhibitions. Since 1988, his articles on arts are published. His published books: “Groundless Comments on Art” (2008), “Sport in Sleeping Bag” (2004), “Complicities of Art” (2003), “At the Borders of the Concept” (with Ali Akay, 1998) and “A Deconstruction of the Fountain” (with Ali Akay, 1994, 2013). He teaches, “Art, Theory and Criticism”, “İdeological Texts and Art”, “Art and Design Culture” at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University.

Burcu Pelvanoğlu, Art Historian and art critic

Burcu Pelvanoğlu was born in İstanbul in 1980. She received Mimar Sinan University, Department of History of Art degree in 2002 and in 2005, Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Institute of Social Sciences, master's degrees. Her books Hale Asaf: Türk Resim Sanatında Bir Dönüm Noktası (Hale Asaf: A Turning Point in the Turkish Painting, Yapi Kredi Publications) in 2007, in 2008 Batı Uygarlığı Tarihine Teorik Bir Giriş (An Introduction to Theory and History of Western Civilization, Aşina Books, with Hilmi Yavuz), in 2009 Hoca Ressamlar Ressam Hocalar: Sanayi-i Nefise’den MSGSÜ’ye Resim Bölümü Tarihi (From Sanayi-i Nefise to MSGSÜ History of Painting Department, Türkiye İş Bankası Publishing) and in 2010 Devrim Erbil (Olcay Art) was published. She was the editor of some exhibition catalogoues and books: In 2007, Modern Türk 2: 1950-70 Dönemi Özel Koleksiyonlardan Türk Resmi (Modern Turkish 2: The 1950-70 Term from Private Collections) exhibition book and in 2009 Serginin Sergisi: İstanbul Resim ve Heykel Müzesi, 1937 Açılış Koleksiyonu (Exhibition’s Exhibition: Painting and Sculpture Museum, Opening Collection 1937, with Nilüfer Öndin). In 2009, she completed her phd thesis entitled 1980 Sonrası Türkiye'de Sanat: Dönüşümler (Art in Turkey after 1980: Transformations) in Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Institute of Social Sciences, Western and Contemporary Art programme. Since 2003, she is the member of International Association of Art Critics (AICA Turkey). She was the Vice-President of the association mentioned between 2004-2008, between 2009-2011, holds the Presidency Pelvanoğlu is the Vice President of AICA International since 2011. Organizing exhibitions and writing criticism of the exhibition in various periodicals Pelvanoğlu, between the years 2002-2009 worked as a research assistant at Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts Department of Art History at the Department of Western Art and the Contemporary Arts, began serving as Assistant Professor in 2010.

Genco Gülan

Genco Gülan (Istanbul 1969) is a contemporary conceptual artist with a specialisation in new media and performance art. He he pursued an MA degree on Media Studies at New School, New York. He got his first prize from BP in 1993, selected as a finalist for The Sovereign Art Foundation, European Art Prize in 2011. Gülan made solo shows at Berlin, Graz, Istanbul, New York, Seoul and Zagreb. His works are presented in museums such as; Centre Pompidou, Pera, ZKM, MAM, Rio and La Triennale di Bovisa, Milano. His works listed in required reading lists at; City University, New York, Rice University and U.C. Santa Barbara. Gulan gave conferences at Yale, School of Visual Arts, Köln University and New York Institute of Technology. He is in art collections such as Istanbul Modern, State Museum of Contemporary Art Thessaloniki, Davis Museum Barcelona and Museum Ostwall Dortmund. Genco Gulan was in the Advisory Board of Balkan Biennial, Cosmopolis, Thessaloniki, International Programming Committee of ISEA Singapore, at the editorial board of Second Nature Journal, Melbourne and at Turgut Pura prize jury in Izmir. Genco Gülan is the founder of the Web Biennial, currenyly teaches at Mimar Sinan Academy and Bogazici University.

Burçak Bingöl, (1976-Görele)

She graduated from BA, MA, and PhD programs respectively in 2000, 2002, and 2008 from Faculty of Fine Arts, Hacettepe University, Ankara, Turkey. She also graduated from Department of Choir, Ankara State Conservatory where she studied music between 1985-91. In 2009, she completed a program on Photography in New School, New York. She has been an Artist-in-Resident at Hunter College, NY for 8 months in 2006 and at Cura Bodrum for a month in 2010. She’s currently accepted to ISCP in New York to work as an Artist-in Resident. She has made several talks and workshops on her art in Turkey, New York, Argentina and Philadelphia. Beside the 3 curated exhibition, she exhibited her own works in 4 solo and many national & international group shows. Working with ceramics, photographs, and drawings, she re-thinks the themes fragility and alienation through today’s image and form by means of mass production and repetition. She currently lives and works on her artistic, curatorial projects and academic studies in İstanbul.
