Galeri Artist Istanbul: JALE ÇELİK

Jale Çelik’s solo show in which her recent work is exhibited can be seen between  12 January – 8 February 2012 at Galeri Artist İstanbul.

Jale Çelik’s acyrilic works produced with the technique she developed transforms the painting into a three dimensional design surface.  The research about color in these paintings produced with that distinct technique indicates an endless process of contemplation and discovery.  In Çelik’s work the relation between light and shadow with the surface tightly binds the paintings to the space of exhibition, through this way they create the impression that canvas was always there as it ought to be.

It can be argued that the relation with Çelik’s works and ornamental arts determines her position in Contemporary Turkish painting.  Through her distinct painterly technique which uses paint to disguise its materiality and to higlight color, Çelik brings a novel interpretation to ornamentation within a contemporary context.
