On the occasion of an 100th anniversary of the foundation of  ZPAP (the Association of Polish Artists), Centre of Contemporary Art in Torun has prepared an exhibition devoted to the regional section of this Union: Toruń Dictrict of ZPAP. Environment artists associated with Toruń is the first time so widely presented in the walls of Torun’s CoCA. This will be an exceptional and unique opportunity to investigate such rich history of the Toruń District of ZPAP, Torun's cultural life, to see the self-portraits and portraits of important historical figures associated with our city and its environs. It will also be an opportunity to hold an extraordinary journey through the landscapes of the subjective imagination of artists and their various forms of expression and artistic visions, but not only.

Based inter alia on the Centre of Contemporary Art  in Torun collection (initiated in 2008) while 622 Falls of Bung exhibition will be presented a broad spectrum of artists creating work over the past century, including contemporary ones, who were or still are associated with Toruń and its region. It will attempt to tell a complex and rich history of the Union and the lives of some of its most distinguished members. Therefore the “path of art” and “artist’s path” can implicitly be taken as a thematic core of the exhibition. This path has been described in many ways, but as one of most vivid, even after 100 years, remains Witkacy’s 622 Falls of Bung, which is quoted here as a metaphoric frame as well as a source of inspiration. Witkacy’s personal and artistic path crossed Torun, as was the case of some other artists, theoreticians, poets and novelists which will be presented within the historical segment of the show since they gave significant contribution to this cultural and intellectual milieu.

Departing from this historical perspective which reaches to the beginning of the 20th century, the  exhibition will develop as spatial and temporal journey through the multiplicity of artistic forms, languages, themes and topics covered in art. You will be acquainted with them through the work of about 100 artists associated with Toruń: past and present members of ZPAP, the lecturers of the Faculty of Fine Arts of Nicholas Copernicus University in Toruń, or people who have contributed to the development of the UMK, as well as those who have made significant contribution to the intellectual and cultural life of the city.

This journey will also lead us through variety of forms through which art can define itself: as a space in which imagination gets liberated, as a field in which emotions and states of mind are expressed, as an instrument to condense the time and treasure memory. Parallel to the mentioned indicated thematic “chapters” this exhibition will lead also through variety of artistic disciplines, such as painting, sculpture, graphic and other reproductive media as well as installations, performance and all other ways in which artistic languages seek to renovate themselves in order to redefine the boundaries of art and connect it to other fields of our social reality.

Exhibition 622 Falls of Bung will be accompanied by the publication of the catalogue which will consist of texts on  later and more recent history of the Association and Toruń as cultural and artistic environment.
