Lucia Tallová

Gallery Vernon, Janáčkovo nábřeží 21, Prague 5

10. 4. – 31. 5. 2014

Gallery Vernon presents an exhibition of a young and talented Slovak painter Lucia Tallová. At her first solo exhibition in Czech Republic the newest large-scale paintings from the two recent series "Schwarzer Regen" and "Memory Space" will be displayed.

The work of Lucia Tallová represents intimate storytelling, that is narrated through the medium of painting. The author combines two contradictory visual experiences: impersonal product of the industrial society and ethereal dreamy landscape.

Lucia Tallová (1985) has graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, Department of Painting and Other Media, studio of Prof. I. Csudai. In 2010 she was awarded with the Recognition Award at Strabag Artaward International, in 2013 she won the 1st place of the Foundation Award of the Young Artists for Painting by VUB. She has held several solo exhibition in Slovakia, Hungary or Austria, and participated at group exhibition ibid. and in Germany or Czech Republic.

Tallová is exploring the power of ornamental structures and decorative fragments, that are made using authentic artistic technique. This technique is based on application of embroideries and crochetings directly onto faces of canvases. Working with decorative laces means, that final works deal with specific visual qualities, but also with the expressing of an inner inexplicit content. Overlaying or superposition of these components determines sentimentality, sincere nostalgia and naive decorativism of the canvases.

There is another transformative element, that defines the work of Lucia Tallová – so called "Schwarzer Regen“ – black rain, that begun to occur in her canvases during the artistic residence in Vienna (year 2011). It recalls tears stained with black mascara, refers to the Women's World. Although painting is predominant medium in the oeuvre of Lucia Tallová, she deals with drawing, printmaking and other art works (making light-boxes or objects) as well.
