Artist talk – Žižić/Kožul, T-HT@MSU.HR

We invite you to artist talk with Damir Žižić and Kristian Kožul on the occasion of their participation and winning the third prize in the T-HT@MSU.HR exhibition. The artist talk will be held on Sunday, 27th April 2014 at 4 p.m. at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb.

The exhibition committee has invited three renowned artist and two artistic tandems – including Žižić/Kožul – to directly participate by including their works in the exhibition and the competition. From the exhibition catalogue:

The work entitled 0.50 presents an unambiguous allusion to the return value of plastic bottles, which have become an ever-increasing source of extra money for a certain number of Croatian citizens. The authors point out the absurdity of everyday life by placing a bronze cast of a plastic bottle on a base, protected by a semi-transparent black glass case. In this work, the artists abuse the idea of elegance by creating a visually refined object which borrows its shape from products of the high fashion and luxury industry, and they also attribute an additional layer of meaning to the product on offer by creating a specific visual context.

The question that is asked here is this: ‘What happens when art appropriates an aesthetic which, in the minds of contemporary viewers, coincides with the luxury created by the world of marketing?’

The artist talk will be moderated by Vanja Žanko in Croatian language.

The installation 0.50 is exhibited on the second floor of the Museum. The weather permitting, the artist talk will be held on the roof of the building. In case of rain, it will be held on the second floor of the museum.
