Artepari Contemporary art gallery, Graz: COAST

Bruno Wildbach – Coast

solo exhibition 15. April 2013 to 25. Mai 2013

Bruno Wildbach "Carduussex", 2013 oil on linen, 70 x 60 cm

Galerie artepari has the great honour of presenting Bruno Wildbach’s latest works, freshly created in 2013, under the title Coast. In its conciseness, resonance and reference to the countryside, the title can be regarded as a paradigm for Wildbach’s paintings. After careful contemplation, the viewer is not merely struck by the vocabulary of scenic description. The images in Wildbach’s paintings can also be conceived as visual quotations taken from the flotsam and jetsam of everyday life. Like the German word Küste, the English term coast describes the narrow strip of terrain that separates the country from the sea, the zone where land and water meet. Outwardly, the two (aggregate) states which encounter each other here are quite distinctive. They meet and infuse each other on this narrow field just like the abstract und realistic elements in Wildbach’s canvases. Geologists understandably regard coasts as mere snapshots given that they are subject to constant change. Their physical shape is transformed through the impact of currents and tides and through the eruptive power of breakers and surf. The same applies to Wildbach’s paintings. Their momentary takes on the world convey the primacy of what is realistic in an ambient world of abstract waves and precariously floating debris.
