After conceptual Croatian photography as from the 1960s was presented in the Camera Austria exhibition Zero Point of Meaning between March and June 2013, the current exhibition project attempts to open up a space of resonance for the question of the conceptual. With this in mind, Archives, Re-Assemblances, and Surveys does not aim at giving a summary of current positions but will pay particular attention to photography as a field of possible cultural courses of action.

The exhibition explores art practices by several Austrian artists that make use of photography beyond taking pictures, and thereby establish an eminently conceptual, experimental, and processual approach to the medium. What is central to these strategies is not primarily the production of images but for the most part the linking of found pictures, or the documentation of complex processes or action contexts. Archives, history, spaces, travel, politics, and discourses play a role in this—photography as a cultural technique and as a cultural artifact that constructs a representation.
