Vernon Gallery: Andrey Kezzyn – photography exhibition

8. 11. – 29. 11. 2013

Gallery Vernon, U Průhonu 22, Prague 7

The photography exhibition by Andrey Kezzyn, that will be opened on Friday 8. 11. 2013 at Gallery Vernon, can be easily placed into the similar decadent and controversial type of exhibitions that in a cynical or even sarcastic way point to the current depraved political, religious and moral situation of nowadays society.

Andrey Kezzyn, on the internet better-known as Kezzyn Waits, is a creative photographer based in St. Petersburg, Russia. He is a teacher and training instructor at the St. Petersburg Photography Academy. He has developed an unconventional and distinctive approach to both, the topics that he imprints into his photographs, and the technique that he uses.

Kezzyn focuses on careful preparation of the scene that is to be photographed; starting from selection of a location, make-up and costumes, to the lightning conditions. The single-frame shooting itself does not last long and the post-processing in Photoshop is minimized.

The question of his photographic style Kezzyn usually answers, that he considered himself as a „pre-postpunk“ photographer. His large-scale photographs are characteristic with provocative, morbid, even aggressive motifs, that are, however, only a shell under which there is a hidden world. A world of mysteries, of basic instincts, of archetypes and symbols, a world that disturbs us; a world that will not let us simply and calmly observe the pictures, but that will make us think about, balance and doubt all the ideas that are historically and socially given, and their meanings. Kezzyn‘s pictures wake something that we would rather keep sleeping.

The opening takes place on Friday 8. 11. 2013 at 6.30 pm at Gallery Vernon at the presence of the artist, and the exhibition is open until 29. 11. 2013.

Gallery Vernon was founded in 2001 by its director, Monika Burian Jourdan. From the start, Vernon’s objective was clear: to support quality contemporary art and present it to the public. Its vision is to place Czech and international art side by side as equal partners and look for links between artists who may never have met, but are nonetheless united by something. Gallery is located at U Průhonu 22, Prague 7, and is open Wed, Thu, and Sat 1–6.30 pm, or by appointment.

Special thanks to our sponsors: De'Longhi, Achour&Hájek; and media partners: ArtClue, Art Guide East, GoOut, CityBee; and the support of the Academy of Photography in Surgut and ‘English Club’ International Educational Centre.
